Royal Or Not, one of the most controversial royalties HRM, Prince Charles of Wales is human and like the rest of us, after waiting for what seems like a gazillion years to claim his birthright must be really really antsy (on the inside..royals are'nt allowed to express most human emotions)..Why's that?
Prince Charles Philip Arthur George Mountbatten-Windsor(his father is part Danish, part Greek and part German) has been waiting to finally take up the job he's been well prepared to take up for about 34 years now. His mother HM, Queen Elizabeth II who turned 85 last month, has been Queen since the tender age of 25 and unfortunately has no plans (at least none we know of) to leave that job...Prince Charles can only start that job by only one of three events-the Queen dies, decides to abdicate or retire!
To add insult to injury, his son (our sweet cutie pie, young, dashing(balding too) ) HRH Prince William of Wales, shortly after taking his old tag of being the "Most Eligible Bachelor in the World" is now the Peoples Favourite Royal...Prince William at age 21, was appointed a Counsellor of State. Six years later he became a full time pilot with the Search and Rescue Force of the Royal Air Force . Impressively, in his secondment, he helped to man a C-17 Globemaster to Afghanistan, during which he assisted in the repatriation of the body of Trooper Robert Pearson . On January 23 2009, it emerged that Prince William had written the foreword to a book for the first time! The cover of Home from War, the autobiography of a soldier from the Prince's regiment who was seriously wounded in a Taliban ambush, notes his contribution.
It wasn't all work and no play for the silver-spoon kid as he bagged the titles of President of England's Football Association, Vice royal patron of the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) and Patron of the English Schools' Swimming Association in 2007.
As interesting as his story is lets not get carried away by modernity. Afterall, it is widely believed that 'old' is always better and more reliable than 'new'... I'm talking about the fact that Prince Charles(big daddy), in his heyday, had his own accomplishments tied to his belt. I've lost some readers at this juncture. Let me refresh your memory.
- He piloted a jet fighter and knew enough about helicopters to help repair them.
- He skippered a Royal Navy minesweeper through North Atlantic gales with the skill of a yachtsman handling a racing sloop.
- He played aggressive and three-plus-handicap polo
- He was a qualified paratrooper
- He was a "gifted amateur cellist"
- He scuba-dived in the Caribbean, schussed down the Swiss Alps and sambaed into the night with Brazilian beauties.
- He was a keen student of history- he could discourse persuasively on the neglected virtues of his ancestor King George III
- He was host and interviewer on a TV series on anthropology
- At 28, he was master of a stately home on 3,000 acres in Kent, which he called 'the most desirable bachelor pad in Europe.'
- He was described as having a mischievous, urbane wit and an infectious smile (now to almost everyone he is a brooding, moodily complicated figure)
I almost wish that something could be done for Charles -that, even if it is decided inside Buckingham Palace that William's ascension to the throne will be sped up, his dad will be allowed to be king, if only for a day. I hear someone saying Impossible!... Documents could be signed. Nothing is impossible for royalty. I kid you not!lol. Prince Charles now qualifies to be seated at the 'elderly' section in church(he's 62). I mean, he's waited for 34 years! He's not as fortunate as the die-hard, hard-charging execs whom, in their climb to the chairman's seat get pushed aside and sharply switch companies(where they are made Chairman). He has no choice, he can't claim the rights to any other country's throne.....Who will be King?
